Dust Moto Hightail vs. Surron Ultra Bee – A Game Changer?
- Words and video by Zay Solis
Today, we got our hands on one of the most exciting electric bikes to hit the market — a bike I’ve personally been watching and waiting for. It’s been in development for quite a while, and it's finally here. As you’ve probably seen from the title, the bike is the Dust Moto Hightail.
This thing is seriously impressive. It’s designed as a direct competitor to the Surron Ultra Bee — a bike that, fully upgraded, can cost upwards of $20,000. In comparison, the Dust Moto Hightail comes in at just $10,900 — and its performance honestly blew me away, even compared to my fully upgraded Ultra Bee.
What’s even more exciting is that the Dust Moto team happened to be in my hometown — totally random, but super cool — so I got to ride and explore the bike up close.
Breaking Down the Specs – Colin’s Take
When it comes to the technical details, I had Colin walk us through everything. He does a much better job explaining the specs than I could. Here’s what he shared:

Powertrain:
• 4.4 kWh battery
• 32 kW motor (approx. 42+ horsepower)
• 60 Nm torque (outputting over 660 Nm at the wheel)
• That’s comparable to a 450cc dirt bike in first gear
Sizing & Geometry:
• About 2 inches shorter than a full-size 250/450
• Similar in size to the Ultra Bee
• Longer wheelbase than the Ultra Bee
• Slacker rake for more aggressive, hardcore riding
"We love the flickability and fun factor that most e-motos offer, but we also wanted real durability — a bike that can handle big jumps, hills, and serious track riding."
Weight: ~230 lbs
Suspension: Comes stock with Sirris suspension
• Sirris R46 shock & F43 fork (custom tuned)
Wheels:
• 21-inch front / 18-inch rear
• Stock with Excel rims
The whole idea? This bike is ready to rip right out of the box, no upgrades needed.

"Basically, this bike sits in the 125–250cc dirt bike class. If you think of the Stark Varg as a 450-class bike, and the Surrons as smaller, more pit bike-like machines, the Hightail aims to be right in the sweet spot. We wanted to create a legit dirt bike that still had the fun and agility of the Surron category — but with serious motor power."
Final Thoughts
The Dust Moto Hightail isn’t just another electric bike — it’s a serious contender aiming to shake up the Ultra Bee market. At nearly half the price of a fully upgraded Surron and with factory specs that deliver pro-level performance, this bike might just redefine what we expect from mid-sized e-motos.
Can it dethrone the Ultra Bee? From what I’ve seen so far — it just might.

Why Sirris Suspension Makes the Difference
One of the most talked-about features on the Dust Moto Hightail is its factory-equipped Sirris Suspension — the R46 rear shock and F43 front fork are developed in close collaboration with Dust Moto, specifically tuned for aggressive e-moto riding.
What Makes Sirris Suspension Unique?
• Custom-tuned for electric dirt bikes
• Motocross-grade damping and rebound
• Built to handle hard hits and technical terrain
• Ready to race — no upgrades needed
Unlike many electric bikes that ship with entry-level suspension components, the Hightail comes trail- and track-ready, thanks to the Sirris setup. Whether you're riding desert singletrack, hitting jumps at the local track, or taking on enduro-style climbs, the Sirris R46/F43 combo offers a smooth, planted, and confidence-inspiring ride.
